The value of prayer

April 1, 2022 | 21 comments

When faced with health problems, people often turn to seeking material relief without remembering there is spiritual help at hand. God’s help!

When faced with a diagnosis of disease, don’t forget about prayer! Prayer can be the quickest and safest route to health and healing.

This vlog was filmed on the Yellowstone River, near Miles City, Montana, when my wife and I visited in August 2021.

  1. Great Vlog…we can all be more open to healing/sharing opportunities.
Just the other day I was meeting with a professional.
He digressed into first talking about his work as a member of his local community church. Then he started telling me about his back pain and all the things he tried to help ease the pain from yoga to meditation.

I asked if he had tried prayer…he looked so surprised and said he had not.. May I pray for you I responded.. he said sure so I shared the prayer of affirmation.

They nest week he shared his freedom from pain and how he shared his experience with his church Bible group.
    We were all blessed.

    1. Hi John, thanks for telling us about this wonderful prayer experience. You mentioned you shared the prayer of affirmation. What did you mean by that exactly? Did you pray aloud with him, affirming his wellness or did you pray silently when you were apart from him, what did you affirm? Thanks for sharing!

  2. That is wonderful, John. Well done. Thank you for sharing that experience. It needs us to be
alert to offer help in prayer as the occasion arises.

It does come to light that generally people don’t realise that
prayer heals the sick as well as the sinning. I love the way Evan puts it that prayer is God’s provision for us to find His healing presence – I can’t quite remember the exact words Evan said, but it struck me as a lovely way of saying how God loves us, and is always with us and ready to help and heal us when we turn to Him in prayer.

  3. To know that God’s provision for us is prayer. Prayer is the jewel that I wear on my neck.
Prayer is my constant companion to turn to in all situations. Thank you Evan for the reminder.

  4. Thanks to John.

I had an experience several months ago, my daughter and I go to the same hairdresser and she knows that we are praying people. She called very concerned she and her mother were told that she must get to Mexico very quickly because her grandmother was very ill and going to pass on. She asked us if we would pray for her, We said of course and we did. When she returned home she called and told us by the time they got there the grandmother was much improved. Later she told us grandmother was doing well.
We both were so grateful that she had asked us for prayer and that it was affective.
    All praise to God!

  5. Evan, thanks for your message today on the power of prayer. I have had many healing, growing experiences in both praying for myself, others and situations and am so grateful.

A few weeks ago I was asked to pray about a dear dog, Pepper, that belonged to close friends of my grown daughter. Pepper appeared to have a condition that seemed life threatening. I immediately began to see the dog surrounded by God’s light, joyous and well. At one point I heard that the condition was determined to have a less “serious” diagnosis so there was more optimism. I continued to pray over the next few days whenever I thought of the situation. Then I received a text from my daughter that “Pepper has gone to doggy heaven.” I was very sad and tearful. Since then I’ve been grappling to make sense of what occurred, the effectiveness of the prayer, if there was something I missed, trying to see the situation from a spiritual perspective. Thanks for any insights or thoughts. Very grateful for this community.

    1. Dear Rose – Your experience reminded me of this blog from 2012 so I thought I would share it. I think every Christian Scientist has experienced what you describe in one way or another. The truth is that a loving and good God can only cause harmony and through continued spiritual growth we will realize more of that ever present harmony until that is all we know..

      1. Dear RH, thank you for your comment and for lovingly sharing the SpiritView post from Dec. 6, 2012. How did you manage to track it down, excellent research skills. Many of the comments were helpful and comforting. I will read it again and ponder the ideas, trusting God to lead me to greater understanding.

Evan would you consider another post on that topic, of how to take the “spirit view” when prayer is offered and the one prayed for passes on. I think many would benefit from it. Thank you for all you do for us (all that God is doing through you).

  6. Dear Rose. You were not responsible for the outcome of this situation nor the one responsible for healing. It sounds like Pepper was under the medical care of a vet and therefore a lot of medical opinion and probably fear was being expressed. We know CS is the truth and that it heals, but others don’t and therefore a lot of negativity can be going on. You did what you were asked to do and I’m sure that dear dog felt the love being expressed and did not suffer.

  7. Evan, thank you for this beautiful visual testament, showing that prayer “is the most potent and desirable remedial agent on earth” MBE, Misc. Writings pg. 4.

Your posts and vlogs place us on holy ground.

  8. Rose; i know how you feel. i asked to have practitioners pray for my baby dog and i prayed day and night but she still passed on. i was told she had her own agenda. i have wrestled with the idea as to how could her agenda be stronger than God’s and what did i miss. Thanks for your posting.

  9. I always bless and prayer for my animals each day, regardless what is happening. I pray for Ukraine and all the world. I do believe these prayers along with others praying are never in vain. If only we are not feeding the lie with thoughts. My dogs can’t tell me what they are experiencing in consciousness but I can imbue myself and our home in prayer.

  10. Dearest Rose,- This has also been my experience with beloved family dogs, where all my efforts to pray, as well as the prayers of practitioners, have seemed to result in their passing. This can be so heartbreaking and cause us to be discouraged and question our ability to heal. It is here that we need to reject the mortal mind arguments of failure or inadequacy. It has strengthened me to press on and continue in prayer to strive to see beyond the mortal sense to the true spiritual sense of all life, knowing that none of God’s creation ever suffers and dies. This is all the mirage of material sense. The spiritual qualities that constitute the identity, purpose, and self expression of this creation of God continue on in true divine consciousness. And the qualities of joy, affection and devotion that this loved pet brought to your daughter’s friend cannot be lost. A human adjustment will appear as we stick with the truth, as it has in my life experience.

We can be sure that the veil will lift. “Now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face…” 1 Cor.13, 12

    Blessings to you.

  11. To Linda, Santa Barbara; R. from Oregon; Linda Cheshire, UK and RH. Thank you all so much for your kind replies, it means a lot to me, truly. I know that God is all and I will continue to listen, humbly, for God to reveal more Truth about this matter and all things. Sending Love and many, many blessings to you!

  12. Wonderful thank you all.
It came to me this week to look up thoughts about Metaphysics so thank you for that article on Healing Prayer it is very helpful.

  13. Dear Evan, thank you very much for your so very helpful Vlog here from Friday!
Of course you are right, that prayer is most important for our spiritual growth and healing in our life!
And I am grateful that Christ Jesus taught us how to pray. And the Christ even today teaches us how to pray. Sometimes when I seemingly can`t find the right way to pray, not only saying the words, I ask God, please teach me how to pray scientifically. God will always help us which we can see in Psalms 91. That is very very comforting and asures us about our Father-Mother God`s loving and strong care for us all.
Thank you “RH” for the link to Evan`s letter published in his SpiritView of Dec.6, 2012. It could not be more loving and comforting and healing! Thank you Evan for this wonderful and helpful letter!
