A mortal past is not your biography

September 21, 2020 | 23 comments

Are there events from your past that you wish had never happened? Perhaps mistakes, misdeeds, abuse, or crimes that you wish could be expunged and left behind forever as if they never happened? It’s possible, in Science.

As a child of God, you do not have a material past to carry forward. You have your spiritual present to celebrate and enjoy!

The so-called material record is but mortal belief about you. It’s not the spiritual truth about you, and it doesn’t have endurance. It is destined to fade into the dustbin of mortal nothingness as the true spiritual you surfaces and makes a full-blown appearance.

You are a spiritual child of God with a shining record of reflecting God’s love, intelligence, wisdom, care, and compassion. Anything less is not you, nor was it ever part of you. Error is not your biography. Truth is your biography!

So, don’t get hung up on unfortunate events from the past. Learn the appropriate spiritual lesson from them. Live that lesson and leave the error behind.

The past will not cling to you, so don’t cling to it! As you focus on living true to your spiritual identity, that which is not you becomes as nothing.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged” (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 22). Be quick to revise and move on!

  1. What a totally wonderful treatment Evan. Clear, concise and the Truth of our existence. Such a complete and loving explanation for me to ponder . I am eternally grateful to being able to share this blog and the thoughts of others.

    Blessings to all❣️

  2. Echo that Barbara! I needed this message at the moment as things from the past keep raising their heads, particularly at this time of the year. So very grateful to have these daily treatments.

  3. I have felt such power in the Bible verse “…choose ye this day whom ye will serve…but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Jos. 24:15.
To serve the Lord is to have only one creation.. man never born and never dying. Man having only spiritual existence which has no mortal past. Here I am Lord bless me with your presence.

  4. Thank you all for this mornings sharing.
Angie, I just read the Sentinel testimony, healing of a relationship. It’s very amazing how these articles come right up when you simply click on the blue line of numerals, number, and symbols. Stuff far from my previous knowledge. The prayers offered are insightful and helpful. Thank for that posting.
This is a brand new moment in a brand new week. Now that error filled past has been expunged, thought is now open for spiritual gain, and happiness.
Wishing all joy this morning, all being completely free from error’s past.
Thank you Evan for this important point to free us from yesterday, and getting on with today!

  5. Thank you Evan for the Angel messages you share so willingly. As with many mornings,I awake to pray and plead for a letting go of memories..I can visualize a ” cargo container” in my yard heaped with ” The Past”..Your understanding and spiritual solutions as given in the Bible may just haul that old unreal container away.Blessings on your day.

  6. here i am lord lyrics
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
    My hand will save.

I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them
    Whom shall I send

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have born my peoples pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them,
    Whom shall I send

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
    My hand will save
    Finest bread I will provide,
    Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
    Whom shall I send

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

Listening to the music is lovely.

  7. Thank you for this message today. I have been struggling to let go of past mistakes which bring feelings of guilt for actions wrongly taken. Learn the spiritual lesson and leave the error behind as you said is so helpful. “Error is not your biography “ is a freeing concept. We can go forward in spiritual progress.

    1. “This is the day the Lord hath made, be glad, give thanks, rejoice.”
Thank you, Evan & fellow readers.
Living each day as a gift of God is my present from Love.
      Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude.

  8. Dear Friends: There is a wonderful article from the July 6, 2009 CS Sentinel titled “To end Painful Memories by Pamela Cook which I found helpful in erasing past mistakes and painful memories. Removing these painful memories has taken much time and prayer and self examination and this article helped me to dispense and cleanse those memories as I began to see I needed to forgive the source and forgive myself too. I am blessed. Thank you Evan for your wonderful insight on how to overcome these things in thought.

  9. Oh, Evan, This is a BIG one! Thank you for so clearly pointing out the necessity of letting go of a ”past’ and living in the ONLY GOD, Now.
Thanks to each one of the Precious and Beloved readers, for sharing more articles, more in sight, further inspiration, all of which lifts me up higher.
How can I express the gratitude I feel, other than to say
    THANK YOU
    THANK YOU THANK YOU………
AND LOVE TO ALL — including any so-called enemies I might still be harboring.

  10. “Learn the appropriate spiritual lesson from them. Live that lesson and leave the error behind.”
This is so helpful. Thank you, Evan. This is a great post.

In living the lesson(s), I pray also for those who were affected by past things in that same seeming (material, mortal) experience as well. They too have only been encircled by God’s love –Love– and tender care.

Thank you Angie for the link to the testimony. Also, Sue Carol for the article suggestion and Trista for the link.

    M, that is lovely.

  11. Thank you once again, Evan and fellow SVrs. I share this struggle with many of you. – However, I have lately found the following text so helpful that I have stuck a copy of it on a wall in my kitchen:
” I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: . . .
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. ”
    Eccl. 3:15
So now, when an unwelcome memory seems to crop up, I wholeheartedly turn it back around to God, knowing that “God requireth that which is past.”

  12. A favorite hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal #202:
O dreamer, leave thy dreams for joyful waking
O captive, rise and sing for thou art free
The Christ is here, all dreams of error breaking
    Unloosing bonds of all captivity
He comes to bless thee on his wings of healing
To banish pain, and wipe all tears away
He comes anew, to humble hearts, revealing
The mounting footsteps of the upward way
He comes to give thee joy for desolation
Beauty for ashes of the vanished years
For every tear to bring full compensation
To give thee confidence for all thy fears
He comes to call the dumb to joyful singing
The deaf to hear, the blinded eyes to see
The glorious tidings of salvation bringing
O captive rise, thy Savior comes to thee.

Thank you Evan for this rousing wake up call to leave the dream and narrative of mortal material existence for the true spiritual realm of God …. the only reality.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree with you, SpiritViewFan. THANK YOU so much, Evan and all the contributors, for all the wonderful thoughts and prayers and articles you have shared.
