Be a Have not a Want

What dominates your perspective the most: what you want, or what you have?

To dwell on what you want belies an underlying acceptance that you lack. It’s an outgrowth of believing something important is missing from your life and that you need to acquire some type of material possession, situation or condition in order to be whole and feel better about yourself.

To dwell on what you have is an exact opposite attitude toward life. It is instant gratitude for the good already demonstrated and is a state of thought that is ready to receive more. It doesn’t dwell on lack but on supply, and it sees it.

It’s much more enjoyable to be a Have than a Want.

God’s children are Haves. They know their Father-Mother is always watching out for them ensuring they have everything they need to experience the best Life has to offer. Life, for them, is not how much money they have, where they live or who else cares. Success is spiritual mindedness, feeling and sharing love, being comforted and comforting, expressing joy and being helped and healed spiritually. A Have rejoices in spiritual wealth and riches. A Have knows their connection to God and flourishes in it.

A Want is a mortal mind phenomenon. It’s a belief of separation from God that believes certain types of material conditions or circumstances are necessary to feel whole. But a Want’s state of mind is illusion. Even when a Want gets what he wants, he likely wants more. A Want is never satisfied. A Want is seeking in the wrong place for what truly satisfies.

A Want turns into a Have when he understands that the most important things in life are spiritual and freely come from God, and that he already has them!

Jesus was a Have, but had nothing materially. He had no place to call his own, no house, no money, and no savings in the bank. But he had everything, for Jesus had God and he knew it. He had no sense of lack because he knew God was giving him everything he needed when he needed it, and this was always the case.

As a child of God, you are a Have! You have God to bless you at every turn. You have God to comfort you when feeling down. You have God to enrich you when feeling poor. You have God to guide you when feeling lost. You have God to inspire you

when seeking answers. You have God to sustain you forever, long after a material sense of existence is past. You have eternal life and supply in God.

A Have is never a Want, for God’s children never want. They have exactly what they need in the moment they are in to progress and experience more of God’s blessings.

A Have recognizes God’s presence and celebrates it with every thought and action.

God never created a Want. God created only a Have.

Enjoy being a Have.

  1. Thank you, Evan. Having, that is, already having, provides one with the freedom of Truth. We need not ask for more, as there is no form to lack.

  2. My goodness, what a VOW article Evan. It’s so very good indeed.
A “Have” person is always happy even with a little good from God. This satisfaction and gratitude brings more blessings.
A “Want” person, no matter how much he is blessed with, always craves for more and more. In this greed for more, is never satisfied, happy or peaceful. Secondly he can not even enjoy the gifts already blessed with.
“There is great gain in Contentment”
Yes Evan a person who knows and understands his/her oneness and unity with God is happy with what he “Has”, knowing very well that God knows what he needs and will duly supply. He is satisfied with what God gives.
Thanks so very much for the lovely insight

  3. This is SO good, Evan. I love the idea that I’m a have person, and so is each child of God. We’re designed that way by our heavenly Parent to include all we need. Our needs our met by God, not government, not give a way programs, not bosses, not lotteries! Each of us can demonstrate this here and now. I just love the simplicity and at the same time the profundity of this concept. A HAVE not a WANT! Just wonderful! Thank you!

  4. Thank you for reminding each one of us that God’s goodness is ever present and abundant! It is so good to know and treasure. I feel so blessed to know this. I am so grateful for God’s love, care, presence, encouragement, steadfastness and strength! As we pray with this idea, we know that all needs can and will be met . We are richly blessed!

  5. What a powerful, truth expressed in such holiness. WOW is right! This , is a masterpiece to follow…and rejoice in ..today and always…… —a Have

  6. This article affirms what we are saying each time we pray “The Lord’s prayer”: ‘”The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” Thanks Evan.

  7. Thanks, Evan, for this inspiring and very helpful message. I love how Mary Baker Eddy states it in Miscellaneous Writings, page 307: “God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow; it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment.” It is important to trust God completely, “never doubting” and our needs (not necessarily desires) will be met.

  8. Thank you! Love this lesson. I try to never ask God for anything but His Grace. I always feel very blessed
and I always feel God is in charge. His grace is
My sufficiency in all things. Thank you Father
