Are you ever impressed by evil, bowled over by its assertions and intimidated by its claims? If so, it’s time to master impressions coming from evil that would captivate attention and defeat hope. The claims of evil need to be destroyed, not harbored and honored.
Mary Baker Eddy tells us how to defeat evil. She writes, “Evil is destroyed by the sense of good” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 311).
Evil and good are opposites. When you are impressed by the infinite goodness of God, you are not inclined to be impressed by the boastful claims of evil. One would negate the other in consciousness. Be sure to side with the good!
This is not hard when one is willing to admit that God is good, and God is omnipotent.
Yes, evil seems real to material sense, but material sense is ignorant of God’s grand realities. As thought shifts from being infatuated with evil to being inspired by God’s infinite good, a sense of evil fades. It is less impressive, even to the point of not being impressive at all.
There is nothing imperative about evil. There is no requirement to bow down to it and serve its demands. As Jesus Christ proved, God’s power defeats evil and renders it harmless.
Be quick to side with good and race from evil. Stay out of its clutches by staying in a consciousness of God’s infinite goodness. It’s a safer place to be, and a happier healthier way to live.

Thank you Evan! Yes I catch myself being “infatuated with evil” too often. Getting better at being impressed with God’s all good.
In “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 563): “We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death. We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra head, showing its horns in the many inventions of evil. But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?”

We never fell for the mistaken-view, distortions-of-the-senses, illusions, etc. We ARE what Life made us to be, and could never fall or be-tempted-to-believe the illusions created by the confused-five-senses.
Mind “protects” Its ideas. Thus we know these ideas to be factual, true…truth.
SpiritView’s affirmations of these facts is wonderfully comforting, reassuring!

These words of Truth are so helpful in trying to see the
nothingness of matter. Where there appears to be such
evil in the world, we need to look through the spiritual
lens and see only the Good. It is sometimes not easy from
a “human” standpoint that tries every which way for us to
be tempted to believe in it’s power, but God/Love is
omnipotent and ever present and what a beautiful thought
that is to remember.

Thanks Evan for this lovely post. Yes we all feel blessed and inspired by knowing that God good alone is all powerful and all present and has dominion over all the claims of evil. We need to side with God and not be impressed by the tricks of mortal mind which try to take us away from God.

Wonderful article by John Selover. The night of September 10, 2001, I was in mental agony and didn’t know why. I called a friend for prayerful help and blurted out, “I feel like the sum total of evil is coming down right over my head!” He tried to comfort me by saying it wasn’t true, (a nightmare) so I felt bad that I was just imagining things, and I tried to forget about it. The next morning (I found this out later) the first flight from Boston changed course and flew what looked like right over my town—it literally could have been right over my head. I now realize that I didn’t reverse the suggestion and declare the truth. I didn’t know the exact details, but the counterfact to “the sum total of evil” would have been “the sum total of evil is ZERO, since God is infinite and all power, the only thing over my head is the infinite power and operation of God, almighty divine Love.” I should have instantly negated what had come to me, reversed it, and kept at it. As the article says, no matter how big or small, the suggestion has to be faced.
