Don’t get mad at God when things go wrong

Have you ever gotten mad at God because events were going poorly in your life? Perhaps you’re struggling with disease, or facing dire lack, and wondering, “Where is God in all this?” And then find yourself getting mad at God because you’re not finding your way out of the suffering.

When people tell me that they are mad at God, I explain that the evil they are experiencing has nothing to do with God. God is not in evil, and evil has nothing in common with God. The way out of suffering is to move thought from believing one is subject to evil into understanding that God is all-powerful good.

Suffering is a darkened state of mortal mind. The one to blame for suffering is never divine Mind, but mortal mind.

Mortal mind is the belief that life is in matter and subject to woe. It’s a dream state that has no reality in God, yet does seem real to the mortal believing it.

God sent Christ to wake humanity from this dream state and enable people to realize their health and abundance in God.

The cure for suffering is to turn away from mortal mind to Christ and find the Mind of God filled with healing messages of truth and love. As we welcome these heavenly messages into consciousness, the sense of evil dissipates, suffering abates, and healing occurs.

Suffering is never God’s fault. It’s mortal mind error. We can mentally walk out of suffering by siding with Truth and claiming what is rightfully ours from the beginning—God-given strength, health and life without limit.

“It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life and is no longer condemned to be an outsider. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living” Jesus Christ, John 5:24, The Message.

  1. I am so grateful for this today. I love where you say “we can mentally walk out of suffering by siding with Truth and claiming what is rightfully ours from the beginning”. The thought of mentally walking out of suffering has been so helpful to me. Thank you so much.

  2. The quote from John (The Message translation) is a game changer, isn’t it?“It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life and is no longer condemned to be an outsider. This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living” Jesus Christ, John 5:24, The Message.

    Excellent blog, Evan. Thank you!

  3. Thank you Evan for today’s blog! The word “urgent” really caught my attention. Jesus’ love for all mankind speaks strongly and clearly in his message. To wake up now from the dream of life in matter but to Life eternally spiritual. Love to all Barbara

  4. The Message Bible is a helpful Bible translation that I sometimes use. Thank you, Evan, for occasionally referring to other Bible translations. I wonder why there is sometimes opposition to the use, by The Mother Church, in the Weekly Bible Lessons, of any but the King Janes Version of the Bible. Do any of you Commenters feel, as I do, that other translations are helpful? Just curious.

    1. I feel that, at times, other translations besides the King James Version, are really helpful to elucidate a point. The Mother Church Bible Lesson Committee does, in fact, use other translations occasionally in the Golden Text and Responsive Reading.

As always, Evan, you gave us an inspired and inspiring meal today in your post! Thank you!

    2. Hi SpiritViewFan,
I am from Hamburg, Germany, and since I saw here that the NLT is used I bought this one via eBay. And the text is so tiny printed, but I love that a bit different text; it is very understandable.
So that`s my comment to a different English Bible.

      1. I like KJV for the beauty of its language use. Personally, I “work” with NLT and/or (since I came from Germany) the Martin Luther Bible. I find it interesting to see how language can make a difference (however slight) in perception and interpretation.

Thank you, Evan for today’s guidance – and, as always thank you all for your comments – they are so helpful.

  5. 1 Chronicles 28:20 NLT Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Lord is finished correctly.
SH 454:24 Patience must “have her perfect work.”

  6. Our heart
    Is the most
    Sure..
    Our small
    mind is
    not real….
    Our heart
    always shows
    the way……
    In our hearts
    We know what
    Is True

    1. Thank you Maximo for your lovely poem. I notice that it matches somehow with today’s Daily Lift from The Motherchurch.
      Both so good!

Thank you Evan for today’s SpiritView. It is very needed and helpful and healing. And how wonderful is the Bible verse. Ponder everything prayerfully.

Thanks for all your helpful, interesting and inspiring comments.

  7. This is a really good message. I wish this blog would have been around 30-40 years ago when I would periodically get mad at God and stop studying CS for a few years, only to always eventually come back when I finally realized being mad at God is futile and only prolongs suffering. And realizing God wasn’t causing the problems I was facing as stated so well in this message today.

But may I suggest a slightly different wording for one sentence? Instead of “God sent Christ to wake humanity from this dream state…” how about changing it to “God sends Christ to wake humanity from this dream state…” I don’t mean to nit pick, but just trying to accent the fact that the spiritual Christ is here now as much as Christ was here during Jesus time or Moses time, etc. I’ve read comments from people that think that Christ healing is a thing of the past, so just trying to counteract that false belief. This is also based on the statement from page 332 that begins with “Christ IS the true idea voicing good…” which I use regularly in my prayers to remind me that the Christ, Truth, is here now to give me the truth I need to overcome any illusion of error.

    1. Hi Brian,
please allow me to explained my understanding why it is also correct to say ,,God sent Christ…”
It was necessary already in old times to send Christ to save mankind , and God sent the Christ not only for the short time in which Jesus was walking on earth but for our time and for eternity, as the Christ, Truth was and is everpresent!

  8. Daily I am helped in my spiritual growth and understanding by coming to Spirit View for guidance and inspiration. Some days are profound in the timing with this being one of those days. Having just read an email from a friend’s daughter, I was feeling extremely sad. You see, my dear friend had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and chose some radical surgery in hopes of ridding herself of any cancer. After the surgeon removed her pancreas, spleen, gall bladder, and parts of her intestine, she felt on her way to recovery and managed to rally with prayers and love from her family and friends.
I introduced her to Christian Science at one point during this journey she’s on. She informed me she just could not understand it. May I pause and say I am grateful for my ongoing quest in understanding and my love for Christian Science.
The email informed me the cancer has shown up in her liver and other areas and her only course of action is chemotherapy….
I then opened Spirit View and found myself to be profoundly grateful to Evan and all who share their insights here.
    Thank you❣️

  9. When I wonder what I am doing wrong, I realize I have an opportunity to learn more about our Father-Mother God, His presence and power. and His Christ.
Evan, thank you so much for sharing these messages of Truth; they are like rays of sunlight on a cloudy day,

  10. I would like to comment on the other translations of the Bible. I appreciate the different and sometimes fresh inspirations these translations provide. But for the body of our Bible Lesson, I still prefer the King James Version. To me, it fits in better with Christian Science, possibly because that is the Bible Mary Baker Eddy studied and based her writings on.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

    1. Dear Lori, I respect your attitude very much, and I understand why you are feeling that way. But I do believe that you are not the only one with this attitude, there might be some friends more who think like you. Here in Germany we have now a more modern Bible going with the lesson sermon. And a lot of members in Germany think the former translations are more conform with the holyness of the contance of the Bible; by the way I think so too. But somehow I like the NLT, too somtimes it seems to be more clear.
Have a very nice weekend! 🙂

  11. Thanks so much, Uta, for your comment! I try to keep an open mind on things new, but sometimes the old is just more comfortable.

  12. First of all, Evan, thank you for your inspiring blog and fresh way of presenting so many topics. I have found them so helpful for a long time–as well as the comments–so this is long overdue.
As we read the lesson in the King James version of the Bible many of us find it helpful to study other translations to get the full meaning of any number of citations.
I have found THE ESSENTIAL EVANGELICAL PARALLEL BIBLE most helpful and highly recommend it. Let me tell you the reason. You will find the New King James Version, English Standard Version, New Living Translation and The Message side by side. So it makes it very simple to research a verse four ways. Enlightening! (I know many call The Message a translation but I have heard at least one Bible scholar call it paraphrase.) At any rate
on page XXIV of the introductory chapters of Essential…. it says, “The goal of the Message is to allow the reader to experience the text with the same emotion and experience as the original readers did.” Also “The Message tries to make the message come alive for contemporary English readers.” As the author of The Message further writes that he wanted to get the language of the Bible into the language of today so his congregation could understand it. “The Message is a reading Bible.” But he encourages reading of a standard Bible for further study.
The study of the Bible is fascinating and stimulating to say the least. How grateful we can be that its message in whatever translation is one of healing and that Mrs. Eddy spent her life demonstrating that healing message.

  13. Thank you, Evan. Always grateful for your blog.
I thought because of comments from some about different translations of Bible being used that i’d share an email response I received from the MBE Library when i asked about what translations Mrs. Eddy used.
“Thank you for your question regarding the Bible translations Mary Baker Eddy used while writing Science and Health.

While we don’t know for sure which translation Eddy used while writing the first edition of Science and Health, given the few translations of the Bible that existed in 1875, it’s likely it was the King James Version.

For more information on translations used by Eddy in her life, please see this page at our website: https://www.marybakereddylibrary.org/research/bible-translations-used-by-mary-baker-eddy/.”

  14. Thank you Evan and All who commented on today’s topic. The one idea that struck me was the use of stating “mortal mind” as though it exists even when disputed and cancelled with the only Mind/God. One story about Mrs.Eddy taken from the book: We Knew Mary Baker Eddy..pg 470-472 recounts Martha Wilcox’s introduction into Mrs Eddys household and her first lesson was on mental malpractice..whereby Mrs.Eddy referred to “mortal mind” as supposititious or so-called.This has helped me immensely in seeing the nothingness of mortal mind in relation to aggressive mental issues that may appear and to re-member the Source..the Allness..The One Power.
