The “powers of this world” show up in the form of military might, authoritarian governments, oppressive theology, disease, mesmerism, and any other type of evil that would deny the rights of man to flourish under the government of God. They may appear formidable. They may appear in control. But their position inevitably slips and fails as Science marches on, demanding obedience to the laws of God that reverse injustice, conquer evil with good, dissolve hate with love, reveal indestructible health in Spirit, and wake mankind to the blessings that come from living rightly with God.
That is such an arresting image to contemplate! I see it as progressing left to right. On the left is the seemingly impenetrable and formidable foe – the “powers of this world” – but as Science, with authority and order, moves on, the seeming power dissipates until it is nothing. Thanks, Evan.

There are 37 blocks of black going down, – imagine it is forty, – the forty days and nights in the wilderness. Mrs Eddy defines “WILDERNESS. Loneliness; doubt; darkness. Spontaneity of thought and idea; the vestibule in which a material sense of things disappears, and spiritual sense unfolds the great facts of existence.” S&H p. 597:16).. No matter how dark, inspiration and Love always win through.

What a graphic picture of black evil with only a square pinpoint of light and love amidst the darkness. Bu t, marching onward, the squares of light begin to outdo the blackness of error. God’s love will always triumph, blot out the darkness of evil doings and bring the light of Truth and Love to all.

Thank you very much Evan, for this passage from Science and Health. It is very suitable for these times situations in the world. It gives great comfort and we look forward to the end of this passage where Mrs. Eddy says that “There is always some tumult, but there is a rallying to truth`s standard.” That means for me that at the end we all will gather around the standard of truth, love and peace!
Oh yes, let us march on in praying and progressing in a still better understanding of the Allness of our Father-Mother God who loves all his creation and cares for us all! Am grateful to have learned this 🙂
