Keep the high goal in clear view

July 27, 2020 | 20 comments

If it appears that you have a long arduous trip ahead, be sure to keep the high goal in mind as you move forward listening and following each step of the way.

Like hiking a few miles to the top of a mountain. There is wisdom in “taking it one step at a time,” for each step is necessary to get to the top. However, the inspiration that gets us to the top is not in a singular footstep. It’s in the vision that inspired us to take the hike in the first place. Clinging to that vision emboldens and empowers us to take another step in the right direction.

If facing a financial calamity, a poor health diagnosis, or a relationship in tatters, the road to recovery might appear long and arduous, if not even invisible. But it doesn’t have to be. There is always a solution. God is with you. God has the resources, health and love you’re looking for to bring resolution and healing your way.

Make knowing God’s presence the “top of the mountain,” you seek to climb, and the footsteps it takes to get there will happen quicker and easier.

“The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it”
(Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 426).

  1. Thank you, Evan. Beautiful! As I am preparing for my bike ride this morning, this is the inspiration that I need. God is the pedal-power, and also is the foot-power in every step we take today.

“It is God that girdeth me [us] with strength, and maketh my [our] way perfect.” (Psalms 18:32)

    1. I am so grateful for Evan’s posts and their regularity. It seems this is a time where we all need inspiration and Evan has really come to the rescue! Thanks a million.

  2. Not usually a mountain person, I like the city. But this was a beautiful illustration of vision ahead for planning. Thank you.

  3. Thank you Evan … I am in awe of how our Divine Mind speaks to us every moment of every day with loving messages that exactly fit our circumstances.
    I am taking one step/thought at a time … thank you. <3

  4. Well-timed, as I am enrolling in grad school at a moment when a claim of chronic illness is hissing that I will pay dearly for trying to do too much. (Nonsense. Mrs. Eddy says, “We are all capable of more than we do.”) Woke feeling dreadful and clicked over here in hopes of finding something to sort it out before I have to leave for work. This is perfect. Thank you.

    1. How wonderful this week’s lesson is Love. I love to think of God embracing each one of us in an all-powerful father-mother hug. Nothing can touch us here.

    2. Each step Divine with joy is blessed, God keepeth
You in perfect peace. Wonderful Bible Lesson this
Week. Am so grateful for all the avenues for progress
we have. Thanks for your blog Evan

  5. This is indeed fundamental thought processing when studying CS. Having dipped in and out of CS since Sunday School I have only really recognised this ‘higher view’ during the last 10 months. And oh what a blessing! Not just for health and other human benefit but for the understanding of the bigger Spiritual picture, permanently present and available. My conclusion is that Christian Science , it’s study and application is a way of life bringing countless blessings along the way as we look towards that “higher goal” . The Daily Lift ‘ An Agent for Love ‘ by Curt Wahlberg also underlines these ideas. Thank you Evan for giving us some more daily bread❣️

  6. Unerring direction is mine when Mind “guides, governs, & guards.”
You & your help , Evan, are an ongoing blessing!

  7. Your lift reminds me of a time when I had forsaken all the achievements I had made after college and wondered into a very low point in my life seeking more material gains but only finding more self-destructive life. A point in that period like the prodigal son, I realized that there was a better way when I recalled my teenage years in a Christian Science Sunday school. So I returned home to Christian Science and was treated with love every step along the way. That was the vision to see life at a high perspective and the mountain top was love; the view: a new understanding of God’s creation.

  8. “Prayer means that we desire to walk and will walk in the light so far as we receive it, even though with bleeding footsteps, and that waiting patiently on the Lord, we will leave our real desires to be rewarded by Him.” S&H Pg. 10:1-4

“Christian Science reveals a necessity for overcoming the world, the flesh, and evil, and thus destroying all error.” S&H Pg. 10:12-13

    And I love this song by Lauren Daigle called “Rescue”. If you ever feel like you are overwhelmed just think about God singing you this song;

  9. Thank you dear Evan for today’s uplifting and comforting SpiritView, yet reminding us to steadily walk our way upward with God, our life, our spiritual strength and our all.
I love to make knowing God’s presence the “top of the mountain”, I seek to climb, in order the footsteps it takes, to get there will happen quicker and easier! Such a wonderful goal for a healing.
Am grateful Evan, for your inspiring and healing spiritual views! ☆☆☆

  10. So helpful! Thank you for your daily post. After reading your post-I was drawn to look up the definition of “embolden”.
    1. Embolden-“give (someone) the courage or confidence to do something or to behave in a certain way.” I love interpreting how Mind/Love/Truth/Spirit/Soul emboldens us with courage.

    2. Embolden-“cause (a piece of text) to appear in a bold typeface.”
Even though the definition mentions text to appear in bold, my immediate thought was-cause and effect=Principle and idea; Mind and expression; God and man. I love how CS allows us to interpret the world from a spiritual advantage, and the process of growth is ongoing and infinite! Thank you to everyone for gathering here!

  11. High Ground! Clear view of all the things below! A great attainment for the climber.
Just having read that citation from S & H about the goal of a long journey. Seeing the satisfying fruition. Blessings from above. “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”
Still striving on to reach the summit and demonstration of God is all.
    Love this week….

  12. Reversing racism just added a tool to the tool box, when an individual from Mississippi said, “I’ve heard is said that we’re at the bottom of the 50 states; that’s because we’re what supports (holds up) the rest of the states.” Added that to my High Goal in Clear View, reaching toward the summit of Love for all mankind.

  13. Thank you, Evan. Thanks to all who share such God-centered inspiration. Everyday and moments throughout the day, I pray, “lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Ps. 61:2
