For better success

Here’s a humbling statement:

“If at first you don’t succeed, try reading the instructions!”

~ Harry Stine, 1962

For spiritual healing, we have all the instructions we need for success in the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Sometimes it takes persistence and perseverance to mine those instructions sufficiently to find the success we’re looking for. But the help we need is there!

    1. Angie, thank you for sharing this article. It really informed my morning prayer and expands on the subject of this week’s Bible Lesson in the CS Quarterly.

    2. Thank you Angie for sharing this great article (which totally complements Evan’s ideas here, thank you Evan!) this is such a clear and well-stated article. – thank you to Channing Walker too. Feel so privileged to be able to drink at the unfailing fountain of inspiration and instruction which is Christian Science, and the committed thinkers and workers who share ideas for healing.

    3. Thank you for sharing this article……so good to be reminded of those instructions…Simply read, think, and put into practice day by day…..moment by moment.

  1. I think of the New Testament wisdom “You can’t put new wine into old wine skins”.
How important to be new every day..new views, new motives, new ways of living..
Putting off the old man and rejoicing in the new view of man- the man of God’s creating-whole, perfect, and pure..

  2. How very well put Evan. Urging us all to seek the deeper meaning of experiencing spiritual consciousness.
Loved the article Angie and as always so helpful to read everybody’s thoughts daily on SV.
Happy , Love filled weekend to all❣️

  3. It always helps to start at the beginning – see Gen I: 1-31. Thanks Even for the “instructions” delightful beginning for today. Just what I needed.
    Love to all,

  4. “Search the scriptures, for in them you will find me”. ..our textbook as well.
    Isn’t that all we need.
    Thanks all.

  5. Thanks for this Spiritview today Evan it was extremely helpful to me and the article Angie referred to was also fabulous. Thanks to both of you.

  6. Thanks Angie for this instructive and helpful article by Channing Walker. He’s been one of my favorite authors and I have excerpts from some his articles in my notes I study freequently. Kathyw, Channing Walker passed on a number of years ago. He was a practitioner, lecturer and avid author.

    1. Thank you, Lori…re: info about Channing Walker. He used to come to our church services on Wed nights. Glendora. Love his articles and loved his testimonies. Thanks again.

  7. Here is an excerpt from an article by Channing Walker that I have in my notes on Age:

“Never in the ‘evening’ of your life”
By Channing Walker, (Journal, April 2003)

Interestingly, what Job says poetically, some astrophysicists say academically. There is no connection between the daily spinning of the earth, its annual circulating of the sun, and the aging of humans. So, then why not challenge the notion that life is an irreversible dawn-to-dusk journey? That evening is coming? That night must fall?
Perhaps the words leading up to Job’s promise tell just how to make that challenge. “Thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear: because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: and thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.” (Job 11: 15-17) What does this hint? Could it be that it’s not the passage of days and years, but the kind of thinking and living that goes on during those days and years that sometimes pushes a person toward night? Or, better, that makes morning brightness a constant” When a person is steadfast in goodwill, is not fearful in outlook, and doesn’t endlessly rehearse old miseries but lets them wash away and moves on to new opportunities – then, knowingly or unknowingly, that person is drawing on spiritual resources. Resources from the Father that give each person assurance of divine Love’s care and that also distance him or her from past hurts and fears. Resources that help people find life to be brighter, fresher, less abrasive, and therefore
    less calendared. …
The renewing power of love is at its clearest when one realizes that its source is not a human mind trying to “think young.” Rather, it is God, Mind – the Life and Love of the universe. As
the love of divine Love renews a person, it becomes easier to be steadfast in charity, free from fear, focusing ahead on opportunities,
not back on miseries. And this more divinely based outlook removes any hint that aging has validity or inevitability. Signs of aging slow
or even shift into reverse, while individual purpose and productivity move forward.
But the goal isn’t to use spiritual means in order to race after the same thing an obsessed-with-youth culture races after with unspiritual means. It’s not to make a mortal into a younger mortal
or slow down the aging process. It’s to discern something of one’s actual nature as immortal, Godlike, to see and know oneself as forever poised in the undimmed light of Life. At the standpoint of perfect usefulness. With a love that is timelessly fresh.

    1. Thank you Lori, Evan and everyone = Angie’s article was/is so helpful, I am so grateful for the Bible, Science and Health and this inspiring group of Spirit Seekers.

  8. Thank you Lori for sharing this. Just what I need this morning. And Angie thanks for that great article by Channing Walker. Love the illustration Evan and such a true message of following the right instructions and using the right tools. It is continuous learning from our books The bible and Science and Health and your daily instructive messages. Have a great weekend.

  9. Our Northern California communities have been praying for rain and now we are getting it with predictions of a great storm and flooding in Northern California. Lots of fear going around.. I would appreciate some healing prayers from all on this subject. I keep hearing Mary Baker Eddy’s words “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” And that we will get ONLY what we need.

    1. Dearest Jane b, surely will pray for it.
And in Western Germany in some Village the houses and therewith their homes were fully destroyed by huge rain floods.
And the event of Elija came to mind, where he stood in a shelter of a Mountain. And there passed a heavy storm and lightning and dangerous weather, but God was in non of these elements. And then there came a stillness and God was in this peace.
For me that means if God was not in the dangerous elements, then they cannot happen for His/Her creation as He did not make it. You can know your Californian brothers and sisters totally in Gid’s loving safty and car! And also in Science and Health you find a passage that extreme weathers are not the divine reality and in God’s kingdom cannot happen. If it seems to happen then it is the wrong mentality (mesmerizm) which needs to be healed. That is also what Eddy says in SH.
Dear Jane b, I hope it helps you some!
      Lots of Love to you!♡

  10. I just looked out the window and there was the most brilliant rainbow in the clouds coming over the mountain.

  11. Thank you Evan, I found the instructions in the Bible Lesson today. Science and Health p. 76. The sinless joy- the perfect harmony and immortality of Life, possessing unlimited divine beauty and goodness without a single bodily pleasure or pain-constitutes the only veritable, indestructible man, whose being is spiritual.” This powerful statement relived the suggestion of pain from my thought and I walked perfectly.

  12. YOUR ONLY PRESENT AWARENESS

“Man’s oneness with Soul, the only Ego, means that he resides in Soul, not in man. He is not in a job, a home, an income group, an age bracket, a marital situation, or an environment. It is Soul’s awareness of Its own infinite ideas that constitutes your present experience — about which these pictures are only the misstatement of the mirage of finite objectivity. This is never your mirage nor your objectivity. Your identity as the full manifestation of Mind constitutes as your present experience all that infinite Soul, the one Ego, is aware. Man, as image, is awareness: Soul, the Ego, alone is aware. I, indeed, am aware, but I AM Soul, not image. My full manifestation, man, whose senses belong to Me, and remain in Me, is the evidence to Me of what I AM.

“The fundamental fact is that everything exists as thought—God’s thoughts about God, Soul’s thoughts about Soul, Life’s thoughts about Life, Love’s thoughts about Love. Thus we read that “Soul is Life, and being spiritual Life, never sins. Material sense is the so-called material life” (Un.30:7-8). There is no material sense, and so no material life in Me, Soul. The one I, Soul, cannot sin. Basically, sin is the belief of otherness, or externalization. All-encompassing Soul, the I of your being, knows and is sensitive to nothing but Itself. To admit another would be to deny the infinIte One, and thus claim to finitize the infinite; and this is impossible. Your present Mind’s awareness is never of finite persons, places, or things; but despite them. Man is God’s subjective experience.

“The foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them [the thoughts] that are His” (II Tim. 2:19). Purity, the sealed-up foundation of the only Ego, cannot contain an element foreign to Its being, and therefore contains no element of self-destruction. Soul constitutes and knows pure peace, pure joy, pure satisfaction, unsullied by and precluding any sort of otherness. This is your only present consciousness of ‘I’ here and now. It is as safe as God just because you consist solely of God’s thoughts about God.” (JHargreaves 2001)

“Your joy no man taketh from you,” (John 16:22)

  13. Dear Evan, I am very thankful for your really helpful Blog! Not only your spiritual views but also the relating comments are inspiring and healing.
Angie’s link to the wonderful article by Channing Walker is such a wonderful keeper and so worth to share it with other church friends. I must read it more times. It is so awefully rich with healing metaphysical ideas!Thank you dear Angie!♡
For me it is comforting and a reason to await success that Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health that “progress is a law of God. ..”, and I combine it with Success which is surely also a law of God. And yes, the help we need i s there, namely through God’s everpresent Love and through the Bible and Science and Health and therewith our lesson sermon a n d through the ever active Christ in us!
