Take the first step

You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

~ Martin Luther King

After you take the first step, the second step will be apparent.

  1. This reminds me of watching all the children, lined up by the side of the swimming pool, for swim practice. The water is cold, and no one wants to take the first step in. however, eventually one brave young soul jumps in and then they suddenly remember what to do next, and how to do it.
I once received a fortune from a fortune cookie that read,
” The two greatest fears in life, are success and failure.”
Thank you Evan for stirring up our thoughts this morning!

  2. Exactly what I needed today! Gratitude for what God has put in place for me, and go forward with joy. Obstacles in the past have seemed insurmountable, but this attitude is the answer. Thank you.

  3. I’m happy to see a message on this topic, I have been praying similarly lately. Praying to know/remember that I am on a “need to know” basis with God all the time. He shows me what I need to know when I need to know it. Not a moment sooner or later than needed, but exactly when needed. So we step out in faith and don’t need to see the whole picture, just trust that the whole picture is God’s picture and it’s good. We humbly follow Him step by step. Mortal mind wants to “figure out” everything but it can’t give any truth because it’s operating on limited, distorted, even dark beliefs. So wonderful to relax and rely on God a moment at a time.

    1. I love this approach, dear Rose. Like a child first crawls, then takes baby
steps, we, too, grow in our spiritual knowledge with each increasing step
with the guidance of God’s plan. We are carried through our Father/Mother
Love’s caring all along the way, but like a baby is not expected to climb a
mountain, so too, do we take incremental steps to go along divine Love’s
way. As we overcome challenges, we grow. Putting our trust in God reveals
step by step that no challenge is greater than any obstacle. Our spiritual
heights become more apparent as we progress.

    2. Thank you, Evan and Rose, I love your comments. They remind me of a quote by Corrie ten Boom: “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

  4. I love the analogy ; take the first step, then the next, the next, and soon you recognize that you are going somewhere.

  5. I can’t count how many times I used this principle as an engineer. Let God lead and things will work out as they should.

  6. Thank you all fro the helpful guidance today. Rose, I also am on “need to know” basis with God” every day. Thank you for your elucidation of the concept. I love the Corrie ten Boom quote. Very helpful.

“Step by step” will get us where we need to be.

  7. Yes, thank you, Evan.
I have found that sometimes, after I have decided to take a step, towards spiritual
progress, whatever that may be, mortal mind sometimes questions or tries to
second-guess what has been decided and I had been divinely led to do. This may
Seem like we have made the wrong choice, but if we are consistent and prayerfully
guided, we will overcome that resistance and triumph over it. Looking back will reveal
that each step we have taken, gets us to a better place, when God directs our path.
And sometimes it may be a temporary tread to propel us forward, but each seeming
stumbling block can become a stepping stone in our journey through life..

  8. Janie, thanks for mentioning the fortune cookie. I received one
recently that said “You’re in your right place.” How true! Although
where I am is certainly not even close to my plans.

    1. Thank you for sharing that, Lori. I had one the other day that says,
“The best is yet to come” and another saying,
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest.
Until your good is better and your better is best”.

  9. Wonderful! A perfect message from Truth. A better understanding and trust in God is all that’s needed and reminders to do this every step of the way, are so helpful and appreciated. I keep getting the inspiration of child-like trust in God and expectation of God, Good demonstrated in practical ways. I’m so grateful for this blog post confirming that route. Much Love.

  10. One step at a time. Thank you Evan. Each new step comes with a fear. We must overcome the fear and take the step. It is always already blessed. Thank you all.

  11. Thank you very much indeed, dear Evan. That’s very helpful, just take the first step and God will lead you further!

And shortly a DailyLift had the topic “moment by moment with God”. I added something so that the whole topic for me is:
“Moment by Moment, Step by Step with God.”

Thanks a lot , dear “J” for the article and thank you all dear commenters for your lovely inspirations!” ♡♡

  12. Wonderful comments and article today…thank you Evan and everyone.

    Proverbs 14:15

The simple man has faith in every word, but the man of good sense gives thought to his footsteps. ❣️

  13. Step by step
    Moment by Moment
Day by Day … God leads the way.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and
endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” – Christopher Reeve

  14. I came acrross at 169, a hymn from the CS hymnal, a hymn that goes along
very well with this topic. Loved to read:

    “Lead, kindly Light …

So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still . . . will lead me on”
